#TRAVELWITHME: XCAPE RESORT | SG. LEMBING (KUANTAN) - 2 DAYS 1 NIGHT

A sleepy town lies deep in Kuantan hinterlands, which was once the second richest tin deposit and biggest underground tin mine in the world in the early 1900's. SUNGAI LEMBING, 42 kilometers away from Kuantan was the centre of attraction because of its tin ore. Its shafts and subterranean tunnels reached depths of between 450 meters to 650 meters, reputedly the deepest in South East Asia and was estimated to be some 322 kilometers long if joins together. However, when tin prices fell sharply during the late 60's, SUNGAI LEMBING was being abandoned and most of the town folks left for a greener pastures.

Thinking back, I couldn't even remember when was the last time I visited Kuantan. Maybe 10 years back then, I supposed. Can't be more excited for my sweet escape, I am saying goodbye to the bustling city life and "Rock n Roll" with crazy adventures and beautiful scenery.

Hello nature, here I come!

Without taking any sleep, our journey to Kuantan started as early as 3am from Kuala Lumpur. To reach the former mining town, it took approximately 3 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur or 35 minutes from Kuantan town. Once arrived at SUNGAI LEMBING, we went to catch the beautiful sunrise at PANORAMA HILLTo get there, you'll have to park your car at the main street and walk down past the morning market to the end of the road.  Then, take the path leading up to the hill.

Good morning, Adrian & Jess!

PANORAMA HILL is popular among the tourists for its panorama sunrise view from 330 meters above sea level . It's best to reach the hilltop before 7am to catch the spectacular sunrise view. Hiking may takes approximately 25 minutes (well..it's depending on your stamina). So, starts moving before 6am! It's better to be early than to be sorry! Mr. Sun waits for no man. :)

Path leading up to the hill

So cold !

The entire journey might be dark when you climb, so it's advisable to bring along your torchlight because there's ain't light along the way. It's already 7am by the time we arrived, so we don't need the extra light to guide the way. Stairs and more stairs to climb, it's one hectic job for someone like me. Couldn't take anymore on the countless staircases, I almost passed out in the middle of the journey. Hehe..

Mr. Vi (Managing Director of Xcape Resort)

Can someone let me know the total number of staircases?
Goshh....

That's only half of the count!

Nicole & Tracy

Just like falling in love, one will never get enough with the breath-taking view!

Views from PANORAMA HILL

After witnessing the amazing sunrise moment, we climbed down from the hill and had our breakfast at the market. Famous for its smooth & silky beancurd (å±±ę°“č±†č…) and signature noodles, there are at least three stalls selling the same thing inside the hawker centre.

Hawker Centre

Tried this for sure, the beancurds are incredibly soft and delicate.

RECOMMENDED: Soft Stuffed Beancurds (å±±ę°“č±†č…)

Jack and his cute face..hehe..

Another famous local food at SUNGAI LEMBING is the "Chee Cheong Fun".  Jack went opposite and bought us some to try out (Thank you Jac Jac!). Not the ordinary type, this chee cheong fun has egg cooked together in it. Served with a splash of sour yet spicy sauce, the taste is hard to describe. If you wanted to try this out, the stall is located opposite the hawker centre, next to Persatuan Hainan Sungai Lembing.

After my breakfast, I took a walk around the tiny minnie town. It was nice that Alvin offered to bring me around and introduces me to the place. This place is extremely small! Our walk took less than 15 minutes to explore the entire SUNGAI LEMBING town by foot.

Without wasting any precious time, we left the town and make a move to our next destination. Before heading to the HANGING BRIDGE, we parked our car at the drop-off point and hop on to the 4-Wheel drive provided by XCAPE RESORT

Looking cool over there, Jack! Haha..

The good looking & friendly boss, Mr. Vi

Get on to the truck ya'll..

Poor Puma...hmpphh...

My sweater, Jack!

If you do not know, there are a few suspension bridges at SUNGAI LEMBING which has over 100 years in history. The bridges were connected to the main town of SUNGAI LEMBING. Two are located in the village of Kampung Kuala Kenau and Takar Rapids in the north, while the one that we visited is located at the village of Kampung Seberang Kolong Pahang in the south.

The famous Hanging Bridge

Views from the HANGING BRIDGE

Across the hanging bridge is the "industrial area" where famous food such as Taufoo Fa and "Dan San" were produced. This place also hub the one and only "factory" which manufactured the signature Sungai Lembing Noodles. The factory is ran by two kitchen workers and a store keeper at the front store.

Sungai Lembing Noodles "Factory"

Doesn't looked like a noodles factory to me, Alvin told me that they are actually producing noodles inside the store. I went in and saw two workers; each and everyone with their roles busy preparing the noodles. If you wanted to bring home some fresh made noodles, you may purchase here at the factory.

Few shops away from the noodles factory is the famous "Dan San" production house. The "Dan San" is freshly made and fried everyday. Each and every bite is so crispy! Oh ya, the Indonesian lady cook is very friendly too!

Freshly made "Dan San"

"It was once broken. So, do not jump on the bridge. " - Mr. Vi said

Hopping back onto our vehicle, we headed over to the resort. XCAPE RESORT is nestled within the jungle and set in the midst of a reserved forest. The journey to the resort from Sungai Lembing town took approximately 30 minutes and is accessible via 4-wheel drives. It was an adventurous ride on extremely rocky road across the mountain and passing through the rivers. One bumpy and crazy ride we had!

We during the bumpy rides
Front to back row: Myself, Victor, Jess, Adrian, Jack & Alvin

Can someone tells me how Victor kept his feet so clean?
We were walking on the same track afterall!

While on our way, we dropped by at the Crystal House. Owned by an ex-miner Mr. Lee Yon, the crystal house displayed a collection of approximately 3,000 pieces beautiful crystalline stones. The stones were collected over a period of 19 years from the quarry at Panching where Mr. Lee used to work. The Crystal House is open daily from 10am to 6pm with an entrance fee of RM 2 (Adult) and RM 1 (Children). As we were rushing for time, we did not went into the place. Off we go, we continued our journey.

Okay, that's one creepy toilet over there..

Testing my GoPro.. 1,2,3

We also passed by the TIN MINE TUNNEL while on the way to the resort. At the TIN MINE TUNNEL, visitors will be taken into the heart of the mine and witness part of the estimated 700m deep shaft by a special tram. Eventually, we did not went in too.

Sharing the same road with us that day are the cyclists and beautiful green lushes along the way. Fresh air, amazing scenery and windy ride. Life is great isn't it?

From smooth, rocky to muddy road surfaces, our "real" adventure into the jungle began. Along the journey, trees were brushing against the vehicle and water splashing angrily on the tires. One experience you could not find in the city for sure.

There are two ways to get to the resort - River Crossing by 4-Wheel Drive or via the bridge on foot. Of course, we went for the extreme option. We like adventurous things!

Mr. Vi went down to check on the river condition
to ensure all passengers' safety

Let the adventure ride begins!

Convinced enough to buy Toyota Hilux?
I bet you are!

And so is Alvin..He drove across the river.
You go, Alvin!

Alternative way - by bridge

Finally, we are here at the XCAPE RESORT

I was amazed with the beautiful green scenery and crystal clear blue sky.

Thanks to Mr. Vi for the special arrangement, I was placed in an individual chalet by myself.
The wooden crib has two double-decker beds in it and is equipped with air-conditioner, ceiling fan, mini fridge, kettle, hair dryer, extra mattresses, towels, water heater and toiletries. Sorry, no TV is provided inside the chalet. I may suggest to bring your own drinking water and toiletries to the resort. Mosquito repellent is a must if you're afraid of mozzies.

Exactly like "Kampung Houses", here's how my chalet looked like overall - simple & down to earth.

I quickly freshen up after check-in and headed out for the first activity, STAND UP PADDING (S.U.P) or known as "Kayak". This activity is priced at RM 150 per person for a 2 hours play on the water. We are provided safety jacket, safety helmet, rubber shoes and padding equipment. A briefing on all safety guidelines were given by Mr. Vi before the activity was being conducted.

Cooler than your Adidas.. :D

Two mushroom heads..hehe..

A quick practice was done at the river before we paddled at a faster stream. During the practice, we was briefed on how to paddle correctly and ways to handle the quick streams.

Wait, Vic! I'm not done yet..

Alvin & Victor preparing to jump off

Hi Alvin!

Victor flying high up in the sky!

After the practice, we were transferred to the upper side of the river by a 4-Wheel vehicle. We then headed down to the river, two on each raft, and started padding from a calm to the rougher side of the stream. It might seemed easy to control, but it really wasn't that simple. Balancing is utmost important when handling the raft, especially when you hit the rocks. The raft might get stuck or overturn easily. Beware if your raft overturned. You'll be hitting on the rocks if you do not follow the same direction where the water flows. I've tried that and it's a pain for the entire week! Hehe..

Adrian is so excited..hehe

Mr Vi is briefing us on the safety precautions

Here we go...Let's start!

This is why I love my GoPro!

With so much fun at the river, we ended the S.U.P session and went back to the resort for lunch. Lunch was prepared by an Orang Asli lady in a simple buffet line which included rice, fried beehoon, stewed chicken, stir fried vegetables, fried whole fish & fish fillets, fruits, cold drinks and hot coffee & tea. Sorry, no pictures provide. I was rushing to dive into my plate of rice at that time. Hungry..hungry me!

So tired that no words can describe, I went back to the villa and took a short nap to recharge myself for the night.

Tracy & Jack during lunch session

What's life in the jungle at night?

The surrounding was dark and it's like an "opera hall" when little creatures such as bugs & insects started the "orchestra". A little creepy, but definitely one great experience sharing habitat with the wilds.

Adding an extra "Umphh" to our journey, Mr. Vi drove us out to the town for some awesome roasted delicacies at a local residence. This is an extra service provided to us which is not included in the package. How cool being the VIP guests, right? I still remembered the ride in the jungle that night - Just like scary movie scenes we used to watch on TV, I imagined at lot! It's on the night of Halloween by the way. LOL...silly me.

Think of the most traditional way of roasting, this lady makes the most delicious Roasted Pork and BBQ Char Siew! Hygiene on the average side, but who give a damn afterall? We can't resist what was on the table. Pre-order is needed to avoid disappointment as the roasted meats sold out fast daily. Ya'll know how good it is.

Juicy slab of meat!

Very traditional oven!

Hello...anyone there?

Jess enjoying her BBQ Char Siew

Satisfied with the awesome porkilicious meal, we dropped by at a mini mart to grab some ice cream before leaving back to the resort.

Meantime at the mini mart..
Jack, the Ultraman! LOL

BBQ dinner are provided by XCAPE RESORT for all the guests and it was already prepared by the time we got back from town. On the BBQ menu that night was chicken wings, fish fillets, sausages, sweet potatoes and squids. Besides than BBQ, a simple buffet was available for those who prefer something else than BBQ stuffs.

I barbecued 13 chicken wings at a time..
Maybe I can start up my own stall already.. :D

Can't handle anymore with my pair of sore legs and pain on my muscles, I quickly rushed back to the room after dinner and called it a night. A sleep accompanied by the sound of nature - priceless!

Our activity for the very next morning was to catch the RAINBOW! One exciting plan before leaving the simple & peaceful town. This activity is quite dangerous though. Be extra careful when walking across the trekking trails. (Jess risked her life for this!)

WATERFALL TRAIL TREKKING
The famous "Rainbow Waterfall" is about 10 km away from the resort. A hotspot with magnificent scene that's definitely worth a visit! Transportation to the waterfall is provided (4-Wheel drive) by the resort. It takes about 50 minutes from XCAPE RESORT to the waterfall drop-off point. Followed by a 40 minutes of land trekking to the Rainbow Waterfall.

If you don't like extreme activities, maybe try fishing by the river! Who knows you might lucky enough to bring home some fresh catch for a luxury dinner later.

As for me, I preferred chilling myself at the hammock beneath the shady trees. Enjoying the moment when the cool breeze brushes through my naked face. How I wish I have a fresh coconut with me, or maybe some Frozen Margarita?

Well..who knows what stress is after all? I don't.

Serial Chiller 101, Me!

Short but sweet, it's time to leave.

With a blink of an eye, our trip came to an end. Before putting a full stop to the trip, we had our last meal at a local residence back in town. So hungry that I can eat the whole cow at that moment. Thanks to our great host Mr. Vi for making an advanced booking, we don't have to wait long for our lunch to be served. Incredibly authentic, the two female chefs prepared sumptuous Hakka cuisines.
Such a home-y meal!

Phewitttt...
That's the chef behind by the way

Papaya Soup

One perfect soup to ease the heat on a hot sunny day. The soup is slowly boiled overnight over the charcoal with pork ribs, papaya, dried mussels, dried squids and "tai tow choy". I love it so much!

Braised Wild boar with vegetables

The meat is so soft and tender; almost fell off from the bones.

Stewed Pork with Black fungus

Steamed Chicken

Deep fried Fish Fillet

Soft Stuffed Toufoo

Hakka Yam Abacus Seeds (ē®—ē›˜å)

This is an auspicious dish that is popularly served during the lunar new year as the round abacus seeds represent reunion and signifies wealth. The yam "abacus seeds" are enhanced with delicious flavors of cuttlefish, dried shrimp and mushrooms. One very time-consuming dish to make. We finished the entire plate of abacus yam seeds although we are already extremely full.

Sad, but we have to leave Kuantan after our lunch to avoid jam at Karak Highway. I went straight into "comma" in the car the entire journey back to the city centre and woke up with a crazy storm in Kuala Lumpur.

So here's my entire adventure into the jungle.

With so many rainbow-filled encounters here at the resort, the beautiful place left me with fond memories. My experience at XCAPE RESORT was one unique and unforgettable moment. Sharing the same habitat with the wilds and breathing the freshest air, I am traumatized by the beauty of nature. It's not the experience that an amusement park or fair could offer.

A special thanks to Mr. Vi Teoh, the Managing Director of XCAPE RESORT for having me over the weekend. I am truly grateful for the excellent hospitality and service provided during my entire getaway. Also, not forgetting my travel mates for giving me so much fun during the whole trip. See you soon at the next trip.

#DINEWITHME: THE PENTHOUSE RESTAURANT & WINE BAR | SS15, SUBANG JAYA (KL)

Whooppsss...I just had my dinner!  What am I doing here? Come on, it's Friday! Let's chill a 'lil - Dinner extended. To be frank, I don't have much time to spend around ever since I've joined an award-winning agency few months ago. Life's pretty hectic everyday, with extreme workload and countless days of overtime.  And just because I have relocated myself to another area, my hangout place changes too. What makes the best option would be the one nearest to my office, with less traffic congestion.  Thanks to my bunch of friends whom always put me on a priority, they make the effort to come to a meeting point near me instead.  I was brought to this restaurant the other day by my friends and I found it quite a waste not to share such an interesting place with all of you.  Let me introduce you to -  THE PENTHOUSE RESTAURANT & WINE BAR. Upon walking in, I was amazed by their simple yet welcoming ambiance. I was ushered in by rows of wine displ...

#DINEWITHME: YUK SOU HIN | WEIL HOTEL (IPOH)

Done with my busy schedules, I finally have the time to sit down and blog about my dining experience at YUK SOU HIN @ WEIL HOTEL (IPOH) which took place about two months ago.  I was being invited by the hotel's PR Team at the first place to drop by and review the dim sum which was spearheaded by their   Hong Kong Master Chef, Mr. Chung Ho Shi but unfortunately I'm unable to attend. Later after that, I visited the restaurant with my mum when I dropped by in Ipoh the other day.  It was a busy morning. We went to the restaurant around 11am without any advance reservation, and it took us about 25 minutes to settle down with a table.  The restaurant was packed with customers that day, due to Public Holiday.  Not my first dining experience at Weil Hotel,  YUK SOU HIN  is the final restaurant to wrap up my adventure at this new hotel besides than  THE DECK  and  TIFFIN .  Bored while waiting, I started to explore around and tappin...
