(All photos: The Chow Kit)
The Chow Kit - An Ormond Hotel has been awarded Best Hotel Renovation & Restoration and Best Visual Identity at the 2021 AHEAD Awards organised by Sleeper Magazine. The Awards are dedicated to the relentless pursuit of the exceptional, recognising hospitality design in all its forms, and the guest experiences created in hospitality projects worldwide. As the only category winner from Malaysia this year, The Chow Kit is proud to represent Kuala Lumpur as a design city in the region alongside established brands like the Aman, Rosewood and Capella Group. Previous category winners include Raffles Hotel in Singapore, Amanyangyun in China, Jackalope in Australia and Eaton Hotel in Hong Kong.

The Hotel Renovation & Restoration award celebrates exceptional design and architecture, contributing to the hospitality experience of a hotel project which is a restoration of an existing building. The Chow Kit was praised for its “impressive transformation that has infused the new perspective of a neighbourhood in rejuvenation”, maintaining elements of the regional cultural context and historical relevance within the Chow Kit neighbourhood.

“Being located in such a historically rich neighbourhood bustling with stories to be told, we felt it was imperative for us to take cues from the familiarity of Malaysia and the modern worldliness of the city, blending cosmopolitan and cosy finishes with comfort. Great design, experience and service is the cornerstone of every Ormond property and we’re grateful for this recognition. Chow Kit is one of the most underrated neighbourhoods in South East Asia and we look forward to welcoming all adventure and culture seekers.” said Gareth Lim, CEO of Ormond Group.

The Chow Kit also received a special award for Best Visual Identity which recognises exceptional design for the overall visual identity of a hotel brand, including elements such as graphic design, digital marketing materials, signage and physical collaterals. Judges recognised The Chow Kit for its unique representation of simplified luxury, the balanced essence of comfort and purpose captured and translated through a variety of mediums from menus and signage to door hangers and light fixtures. Working closely with local artists and curators such as Mey Kamal, Bendang Artisan and Liza Ho, the building honours and reinterprets the past, with local materials showcased throughout the hotel.

“The Chow Kit celebrates simplified luxury while maintaining a strong cultural connection to the Chow Kit neighborhood. Our team has been hard at work to provide travelers an inspiring and memorable experience in Kuala Lumpur.” added Krystle Ng, Head of Brand & Marketing at the Ormond Group.

If you are looking for some time away from saggy parents or screaming kids, look no further. Stay & Dine packages are available on the website where guests can book a stay at the Den room from RM190 and receive the equivalent amount worth of dining credits. For those wanting to dine-out but looking for additional peace of mind, The Chow Kit have also introduced PRIVATE where guest rooms have been converted into private dining rooms offering guests a memorable experience with impeccable service but minimal interaction with other guests.

The Ormond Group is an award-winning hospitality group based in Kuala Lumpur with three unique brands. The Ormond Hotels brand is the flagship of the Ormond Group, a collection of beautiful boutique properties rooted in modern, simplified luxury. MoMo’s, it’s playful younger sibling, is a concept that goes against the grain to break with tradition, celebrating creativity and the vibrancy of city life and Tune Hotels is synonymous with great value, offering travellers convenient practicality. #DINEWITHME: THE PENTHOUSE RESTAURANT & WINE BAR | SS15, SUBANG JAYA (KL)

Whooppsss...I just had my dinner!  What am I doing here? Come on, it's Friday! Let's chill a 'lil - Dinner extended. To be frank, I don't have much time to spend around ever since I've joined an award-winning agency few months ago. Life's pretty hectic everyday, with extreme workload and countless days of overtime.  And just because I have relocated myself to another area, my hangout place changes too. What makes the best option would be the one nearest to my office, with less traffic congestion.  Thanks to my bunch of friends whom always put me on a priority, they make the effort to come to a meeting point near me instead.  I was brought to this restaurant the other day by my friends and I found it quite a waste not to share such an interesting place with all of you.  Let me introduce you to -  THE PENTHOUSE RESTAURANT & WINE BAR. Upon walking in, I was amazed by their simple yet welcoming ambiance. I was ushered in by rows of wine displ...

#DINEWITHME: YUK SOU HIN | WEIL HOTEL (IPOH)

Done with my busy schedules, I finally have the time to sit down and blog about my dining experience at YUK SOU HIN @ WEIL HOTEL (IPOH) which took place about two months ago.  I was being invited by the hotel's PR Team at the first place to drop by and review the dim sum which was spearheaded by their   Hong Kong Master Chef, Mr. Chung Ho Shi but unfortunately I'm unable to attend. Later after that, I visited the restaurant with my mum when I dropped by in Ipoh the other day.  It was a busy morning. We went to the restaurant around 11am without any advance reservation, and it took us about 25 minutes to settle down with a table.  The restaurant was packed with customers that day, due to Public Holiday.  Not my first dining experience at Weil Hotel,  YUK SOU HIN  is the final restaurant to wrap up my adventure at this new hotel besides than  THE DECK  and  TIFFIN .  Bored while waiting, I started to explore around and tappin...
